This is the 14th series released by Girraway Ganyi Consultancy.

YarninBlak is a new 2023 podcast series that looks at highlighting the diversity and uniqueness of Aboriginal people living in Victoria.

Episode 1:

In this episode, AJ talks with the wonderfully colourful Ricki Spencer - 'self identifying Aboriginal trans-gender non-binary women with a disability'.

Ricki (They/Them) is a qualified social worker & teacher and current student at the University of Melbourne completing a Master of Learning Intervention, undertaking a thesis on “Do secondary school teachers disrupt heteronormative practices in their classrooms?”.

Ricki is a dedicated and life-long advocate of trans-health & well-being, Aboriginal issues and fairness in education. Ricki has over 20 years’ experience working in welfare provision as a social worker and teacher. They are passionate about local planning issues in relation to access to health and services for marginalized groups in Victoria.

Ricki shares a number of life experiences: transitioning, self-identity and worth, racism, discrimination in finding work and self-recognition and acceptance.

Ricki is Co-Chair of Inclusive Rainbow Voices, LGBTIQ People with Disabilities National Organisation, Community Advisor for No to Violence Campaign, Peer Evaluation member for Orange Door, Community Advisor at Royal Melbourne Hospital & Breast Screening Victoria .... the list goes on.. including Convenor for Sociology of Media and Teaching in Australia for Australian Sociological Association (TASA) as well as BentTV Host.
